Yes, you can fly with a vape pen, as long as it travels in your carry-on bag or on your person.

What you can't do is use it. Vaping is banned on commercial flights, and the FAA calls it dangerous and a federal offense on US flights.

You also can't charge your vape on board. Some airports have smoking areas where vaping is allowed, but rules vary, so ask staff or follow the signs.

What You Can Bring Along

The TSA allows vapes in carry-on bags, with lithium ion batteries of 100 Wh or less. Spare batteries must also go in your carry-on, with the terminals covered.

Nicotine e-liquid is allowed in the cabin. Bottles must be 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less and go in your quart-sized liquids bag.

Never pack cannabis or THC products.

Allowed In Checked Luggage?

No. Vapes and spare lithium batteries are banned from checked luggage on US flights, because they are a fire risk in the cargo hold.

Airlines outside the US apply similar rules, but check with each airline on your route. If your carry-on is checked at the gate, take your vape and spare batteries out and keep them with you.

Are Vape Pens Illegal in Tonga?

We could not find a reliable, official source on Tonga's rules for e-cigarettes.

The World Health Organization's 2025 tobacco report does not list Tonga among the countries that regulate e-cigarettes or ban their sale. That usually means no specific e-cigarette law was reported.

No law on file does not mean vaping is allowed everywhere. The UK government's Tonga travel advice says you must declare anything that may be prohibited or subject to duty. Rules can change without notice, so check with the Tongan embassy or consulate and your airline before you travel.

Local Customs

Tongan society is conservative and religious, and Sundays are strictly observed. Be discreet, and ask before you vape in hotels, restaurants or vehicles.
