Can You Fly With a Vape Pen To United Arab Emirates?

Vaping in the Air

Yes, you can fly to the United Arab Emirates with a vape pen, as long as it travels in your carry-on bag or on your person.

The UAE does not ban vapes for adults, so you can bring a nicotine vape for personal use. Leave CBD and THC products at home.

What you can't do is use it. Vaping is banned on commercial flights, and the FAA calls it dangerous and a federal offense on US flights.

You also can't charge your vape on board. Some airports have smoking areas where vaping is allowed, but rules vary, so follow the signs.

What You Can Bring Along

The TSA allows vapes in carry-on bags only, with lithium ion batteries of 100 Wh or less. Spare batteries must also go in your carry-on, with the terminals covered.

Nicotine e-liquid is allowed in the cabin. Bottles must be 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less and go in your quart-sized liquids bag.

Never pack cannabis, THC or CBD products. Many countries treat them as illegal drugs.

Allowed In Checked Luggage?

No. Vapes and spare lithium batteries are banned from checked luggage, because they are a fire risk in the cargo hold.

If your carry-on is checked at the gate, take your vape and spare batteries out and keep them with you.

Are Vape Pens Illegal in United Arab Emirates?

Vape Laws in the UAE

Vape pens are legal for adults in the UAE. The Ministry of Health and Prevention says e-cigarettes fall under the federal tobacco control law, Gulf News reports.

A 2019 technical regulation also sets standards for electronic nicotine products sold in the country.

Where You Can't Vape

The tobacco law bans smoking in closed public places, and the ministry says this covers e-cigarettes in offices and other closed spaces.

Vape only where smoking is allowed, such as designated areas. During Ramadan, avoid smoking or vaping in public in the daytime.

CBD Refills Can Get You Arrested

The UK government warns that some e-cigarette refills contain ingredients that are illegal in the UAE, such as CBD oil.

If you are found with them, they will be confiscated and you could face criminal charges. Bring only nicotine e-liquid from a known brand.

Age Restrictions

UAE law bans selling tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, to anyone under 18.

Vapes are for adults only. In the US, federal law bans selling e-cigarettes to anyone under 21.

Tips for Bringing a Vape Pen on a Plane

With a bit of preparation, flying with a vape pen is simple. Here are some tips:

  • Carry-on only: pack the vape and any spare batteries in your carry-on. If your bag is gate-checked, take them out first.
  • Prevent activation: switch the device off or lock it, and keep spare batteries in a case away from keys and coins.
  • Liquids: keep e-liquid bottles at 3.4 ounces (100 ml) or less, in your liquids bag. Pressure changes can make tanks leak, so carry them empty or in a sealed bag.
  • No vaping on board: don't use or charge your vape on the plane.
  • Check every stop: airlines can limit how many devices you carry, and the rules of any country where you change planes also apply.
