Can You Fly With a Vape Pen To Nepal?

Vaping in the Air

Think twice before you pack a vape for Nepal. Nepal bans the sale of e-cigarettes, and we could not confirm whether travelers may bring one for personal use.

If you do bring one, it must travel in your carry-on bag or on your person.

What you can't do is use it. Vaping is banned on commercial flights, and the FAA calls it dangerous and a federal offense on US flights.

You also can't charge your vape on board. Some airports have smoking areas where vaping is allowed, but rules vary, so follow the signs.

What You Can Bring Along

The TSA allows vapes in carry-on bags only, with lithium ion batteries of 100 Wh or less. Spare batteries must also go in your carry-on, with the terminals covered.

Nicotine e-liquid is allowed in the cabin. Bottles must be 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less and go in your quart-sized liquids bag.

Never pack cannabis, THC or CBD products. Many countries treat them as illegal drugs.

Allowed In Checked Luggage?

No. Vapes and spare lithium batteries are banned from checked luggage, because they are a fire risk in the cargo hold.

If your carry-on is checked at the gate, take your vape and spare batteries out and keep them with you.

Are Vape Pens Illegal in Nepal?

Nepal's E-Cigarette Ban

The Johns Hopkins e-cigarette policy scan lists Nepal among the countries that ban the sale of all types of e-cigarettes.

We could not verify the penalties or the rules for personal possession. Check with the Nepalese embassy before you travel, or leave your vape at home.

CBD and Cannabis

The UK government warns that some e-cigarette refills contain CBD, which is illegal in Nepal. Police may seize them and charge you with drug possession.

Penalties for cannabis offenses in Nepal are severe, including prison.

Age Restrictions

Vapes are for adults only. In the US, federal law bans selling e-cigarettes to anyone under 21.

Tips for Bringing a Vape Pen on a Plane

With a bit of preparation, flying with a vape pen is simple. Here are some tips:

• Carry-on only: pack the vape and any spare batteries in your carry-on. If your bag is gate-checked, take them out first.
• Prevent activation: switch the device off or lock it, and keep spare batteries in a case away from keys and coins.
• Liquids: keep e-liquid bottles at 3.4 ounces (100 ml) or less, in your liquids bag. Pressure changes can make tanks leak, so carry them empty or in a sealed bag.
• No vaping on board: don't use or charge your vape on the plane.
• Check every stop: airlines can limit how many devices you carry, and the rules of any country where you change planes also apply.
