Yes, you can fly with a vape pen, as long as it travels in your carry-on bag or on your person.

What you can't do is use it. Vaping is banned on commercial flights, and the FAA calls it dangerous and a federal offense on US flights.

You also can't charge your vape on board. Some airports have smoking areas where vaping is allowed, but rules vary, so ask staff or follow the signs.

What You Can Bring Along

The TSA allows vapes in carry-on bags, with lithium ion batteries of 100 Wh or less. Spare batteries must also go in your carry-on, with the terminals covered.

Nicotine e-liquid is allowed in the cabin. Bottles must be 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less and go in your quart-sized liquids bag.

Never pack cannabis or THC products.

Allowed In Checked Luggage?

No. Vapes and spare lithium batteries are banned from checked luggage on US flights, because they are a fire risk in the cargo hold.

Airlines outside the US apply similar rules, but check with each airline on your route. If your carry-on is checked at the gate, take your vape and spare batteries out and keep them with you.

The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids' legal database has no e-cigarette rules on file for Algeria. That does not mean vaping is allowed, so check with the Algerian embassy before you travel.

Other Local Laws to Know

The UK government's Algeria travel advice says Algeria has zero tolerance for drug offenses. Penalties are severe and can include the death penalty.

Never bring cannabis, THC cartridges or any other drug. It is also illegal to drink or be drunk in public, and during Ramadan you should not smoke in public in the daytime.

Vapes are for adults only. In the US, federal law bans selling e-cigarettes to anyone under 21.

With a bit of preparation, flying with a vape pen is simple. Here are some tips:

- Research TSA Regulations:

Check the TSA rules before you fly. Airlines can add their own limits, such as how many devices you can carry, so check those too.

Also check the rules for any country where you change planes.

- Keep Your Device Securely Stored: Keep your vape in a case, switched off or locked, so the button can't be pressed in your bag. Store spare batteries in a battery case.

- Know That You Can't Vape Onboard: There are no vaping areas on commercial flights. Wait until you are off the plane and in a place where vaping is allowed.
