Design Characteristics and Materials

A mechanical box mod has no electronic circuitry or safety chip. Pressing the fire button closes the circuit between the batteries and the atomizer.

We could not verify the Fog Box's body material or exact dimensions, and versions sold under the name may differ. Look for vent holes in the battery compartment, which let gas escape if a cell fails.

How the batteries are wired matters a lot. Two cells in series roughly double the voltage, while two in parallel keep the voltage of one cell and share the current. Confirm which layout your unit uses before you build a coil.

Battery Compatibility and Housing

The Fog Box is listed as using two 18650 cells. Use only authentic, high-drain cells from a reputable source, and check their continuous discharge rating, not a "pulse" or "max" figure.

Some mech mods use a hybrid connection, where the atomizer's positive pin touches the battery directly. On a hybrid mod, the atomizer pin must stick out far enough, or you risk a direct short.

User Requirements and Safety Considerations

The lack of electronic protection means the device won't stop a short circuit, over-discharge or overheating. You must calculate current with Ohm’s law (current = voltage ÷ resistance) and keep it within your batteries' continuous rating.

For example, a single fully charged cell (about 4.2 volts) on a 0.2-ohm coil draws about 21 amps. In a series box, the voltage roughly doubles, so the same coil draws far more current.

Inspect battery wraps before every use, and replace any cell with a torn wrap, dent or signs of heat. The FDA says to replace batteries that get damaged or wet, and to store loose batteries in a case away from metal objects.
